Company
SATRP Vision To solve the waste (scrap) tyre problem in South Africa. SATRP Mission To operate a non-profit organisation that will administer the sustainable collection of waste (scrap) tyres arisings in SA and make them available to all users of waste tyres. (Subject to legislation.) SATRP Company The producers (manufacturers, importers and retreaders in the tyre industry have established a non-profit organisation in response to the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism's (DEAT) policy on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Briefly EPR requires producers to assume responsibility, for the products they produce, from cradle to grave. The stated policy of Government with regard to waste regulations is to have limited intervention with the industry assuming much of the responsibility and management. If industry does not, or is unable to, assume responsibility Government will enforce EPR through detailed regulations. The situation with regard to the tyre industry is that DEAT intend promulgating a limited Waste Tyre Regulation, backed up by a Memorandum of Agreement that will be signed by DEAT and the SATRP Company. SATRP Members All suppliers are eligible to become members of the SATRP Company. As a non-profit organisation the company requires a minimum of seven members. The founder members of the company are: - Manufacturers: - Bridgestone, Continental, Dunlop and Goodyear. Importers: - Michelin, Pirelli and Yokohama Retreaders: - Maxiprest and Trentyre SATRP Board representation The members elect six directors to represent them on the board of the company. The representation on the board is in relation to the levy contributions by each sector to the waste tyre collection fund. At present the representation on the board is in the ratio three from the manufacturers, two from the retreaders and one from the importers. Invitation are extended to the Tyre Dealers (TDAFA) and to organised labour (NUMSA) to nominate representatives for appointment to the Board.
