Tyre Dealers Registration with SATRP
Tyre dealers who are supplied with tyres by tyre producers being subscribers to the SATRP Company will be relieved of those brands of waste tyres once the official collection process starts, in 2012. A specific waste tyre collecting company will be allocated to a specific dealer to collect waste tyres of the subscribers to the plan from a specific GPS registered site.
Tyre dealers in possession, or in control of any waste tyre that was originally manufactured, or imported ,as new, part-worn, as a retreadable casing or fitted to a vehicle by any subscriber to the SATRP Industry Plan must register with the SATRP Company for the collection of waste tyres from the dealers' premises.
Please see the Waste Tyre Regulation and Management Plan for details. Tyre categories are defined as per the international standard "The European Tyre and Rim Technical Organisation" (ETRTO).
The collection of the first phase (as per the SATRP Integrated Industry plan) is highway tyres e.g. passenger and commercial tyres. All other categories of tyres (e.g. OTR, Agricultural, Aircraft, etc) will be phased in over a 5 year period.
The SATRP Plan does not interfere with retreadable casings or good part worn tyres that comply with the SA Road Regulations. The re-use of these tyres is encouraged.
