Time Schedule

The collection process is likely to start within 12 months after the integrated waste management plan has been gazetted by the Minister of DEA. The gazetting of the Plan sets the dates for the rest of the project. Estimated dates are as follows:

Draft Gazetted for public comment for 30 day period: on 5 March 2010
Gazetting of approved plan: June 2012.

COLLECTION OF WASTE TYRES STARTING AROUND SECOND QUARTER 2013 DEPENDING ON PLAN APPROVAL DATE BY DEA

Tyre Category Collections:

Phase one is planned as

  • Category one – Passenger, light commercial and heavy commercial tyres supplied for; licensed highway vehicles with rim sizes 8" to 24.5" and an outside diameter of less than 48.5".
  • Collection of waste tyres in this first category will start not later than twelve months after the date of approval of this Integrated Industry Waste Tyre Plan by the Minister of DEA.

Additional categories and phase in times

The SATRP Company will add one additional category of tyres to the collection process per annum. All categories have to be dealt with within five years after starting the Plan. Various categories will actually require very different procedures. Producers that join the SATRP Plan will only start contributing a green fee once their category of tyres can be collected.
