Transporters

Waste Tyre Transporters

The collection of close to 60,000 tons of passenger and commercial waste tyres from every town and city in SA requires a disciplined and well-regulated collection process. The SATRP Company intends to ask for tenders to be submitted for the collection and storage of these waste tyres. The tenders will be based on the various provinces. All waste tyres collected within a province will be accumulated at storage sites within the province.

Appointment of waste tyre transporters by the SATRP Company

  • Only transporters permitted by DEA to carry out a waste management activity will be considered for appointment. Successful tenderers will be awarded contracts for a period up to three years. Provincial waste tyre transporters will be contracted in each Province of South Africa.
  • Provincial waste tyre transporters will be responsible for the sub-contracting of Regional waste tyre transporters within the Province. Contracted transporters will be issued with a registration number by the SATRP Company and that registration number must be displayed on all trading documentation and waste tyre transport vehicles.
  • In order to avoid defrauding of the collection process waste tyre transporters will be obliged to apply all other processes approved by the SATRP Company, to manage the collection process.

NO MONEY WILL BE PAID TO UN-AUTHORISED COLLECTORS OF WASTE TYRES IN ORDER TO PREVENT THE THEFT OF TYRES!

Waste Tyre Transporters registration with Government

In terms of the National Environmental Management: Waste Act 2008 (Act No 59 of 2008). A waste management license is required for the storage of waste tyres in a storage area exceeding 500m².

Tenders

A tender process will be instituted in order to allow for free competition in the allocation of waste tyre transport and storage contracts per province. Transporters will be required to have good technical, managerial and financial systems in place, plus transfer sites and handling equipment to maintain the waste tyre collections are per the various applicable regulations.

  • Tyre dealers will require a very reliable collection process of waste tyres as they often have limited space available for waste tyres in their shops.
  • Tenders can only be requested once DEA approves the Industry Plan in 2012.
  • Only transporters contracted by the SATRP Company will be remunerated for services rendered.
